Pearls

Pearls have always been of fascination to women and men throughout history. A luxurious feeling comes with wearing a pearl, because it is a gift from the ocean.

Koro's pearls are harvested in the warm, clean waters off Australia’s north-west coast, and range in colour, lustre, size and quality. AustralianSouthSea pearls are the crème de la crème.

Thanks to the silver lipped oyster, found in abundance off the coast of Broome, we have the beautiful silvery-white and pink pearls. Tahitian pearls are formed in the black lipped oyster and are found along the coast of Tahiti

These unique beauties form when a foreign irritant such as a grain of sand, piece of shell or a nucleus enters certain types of oysters. In response, the mollusc coats the intruder in layer upon layer of a substance called nacre, which gives pearls their lustrous finish. Unfortunately, very few pearls sold today are 100% natural. Man  often plays the role of Mother Nature by carefully implanting an irritant into oysters and then leaving them to form.

Pearls are very classic, as well as chic and stylish. At Koro, we believe they are never not in fashion, and we strive to keep pearls fashionable and contemporary. While the classic strand always has a place at Koro, our designers also thread SouthSea and Tahitian pearls onto neoprene and leather with natural gems to create modern and different pieces. For an extremely unique look, we have set  large, single pearls in hand-crafted pendants, rings and earrings made of West Australian gold. With inspiration from our magnificent coastline, we can create the perfect frame for the finest of one-off pearl pieces.
